Top 10 Holdem Tips to Improve Your Game and Skills

To master the game of Texas Hold'em here are 10 hard fast rules to follow by these should always be followed to make sure the odds stay in your favor.

1.) Its important not to play every hand and Fold more often.

This is by far the #1 mistake that Texas Holdem players make from beginning to advanced players. They want to be in the action all the time and lose a lot of chips in doing so. When playing poker its important you know which hands are good to play and which are not top worst starting hands.  A good rule is to be folding more than half the cards you are dealt.

2.) Don't Play Intoxicated

There have been a ton of nights where I have sat and play cards and watched people at the table get wasted throwing their chips my way. I have been that person on occasion too when its more about being with friends and less about poker. The truth is if your in it to win it, the alcohol lets you be more looser and play more sloppy.

3.) You don't have to bluff just for the sake of bluffing

A lot of people who are starting out think that they need to bluff its a necessity in this game. There is no rule that one must bluff during the game. Bluffs only work in certain situations with certain types of people. Some will always call til the showdown and can't be bluffed.

4.) Don't stay in the hand because you are already deep into it

Another mistake that happens a lot is beginners think that well I have already put this much in the pot I should ride it out.  There may be cases when pot odds lead to a call, but if you are sure your probably beaten and no way you can get the best hand with your feeling. FOLD. The money you put out there is a loss don't throw good money after bad.

5.) Don't Call at the end of a hand to keep someone honest

I often see a lot of players look at another players final bet and say I know you got me but I have to keep you honest. If you really feel the player has the hand he is standing behind its not worth calling and throwing more money to see it. You are just giving him another pile of your money.

6.) Watch your moods when you play, Bad mood is Bad news

When you sit down to play some poker, you should do it because you enjoy it  and not to escape from depression or a bad day. Emotions are a huge part of this game and will work against you in a big way. If you fell yourself getting this way its good to stand up and take a break til you calm down. The other players will feed on this.

7.) Look at the cards on the table

When you first sit down, not only do you have to pay attention to your own hand but look around on what is going on at the table. Figure out in your head what the best possible hand is, make sure you are thinking of flush and straight possibilities. See who is betting what out of the gate and make a mental note of it.

8.) Look at the other players at the table

One of the most important things you can do while playing Texas Holdem is observe your opponents, even if your hand is already done. This will take pure experience but if you can pick up on little things like a particular player always raises in a certain position, or when one bluffs he has a tell you can use this throughout the game.

9.) Don't play at the big dog tables til your ready

There are several reasons people step up the level that they are playing at. One is they are consistently winning at a lower level and ready to move up. This is the reason too the bad one is people don't want to wait in the longer line or there are openings at high limit. Don't play at stakes that have you thinking about actual day to day life bills or money you can't lose.

10.) Pick the game for your skill level and bankroll

One of the big reason you should not jump right into a higher level table after winning some good money at a smaller one is when the stakes rise so do the players skill. You always want to be the best at the table not the fish that sits down with the sharks. Make it be when you are consistently winning not just one big night.
