The Rules of Good Basic Holdem Strategy

---------------------------------------------

There are many strategies out there for No limit Texas holdem that you can gain access too as you try to improve your game.  These are a basic guideline that a lot of these strategies are founded on. Its a good foundation for beginners and also a reminder for the professionals to fall back on. Here are some Free Texas Holdem rules that can improve your game very quickly....

1.) The first rule and this is listed on this site a few times because its the most violated rule in Texas Holdem. These are usually the players that go out the first and this play will dominate the lower tables until you begin to move up. Its important to have the discipline to only play good starting hands. Some strategies go as far as to say only play AA, KK, QQ, JJ when starting a huge tournament. This is not necessary at all unless playing a massive tournament but its important not to play every hand. A good discipline player only plays on average 10 to 20% of the hands. Don't be the chump play the odds and let your name stand out. There is a time to gamble and do a little bluffing but don't let this main rule get too far away from you play.

2.) The second rule of a good basic strategy is that the flop must hit your hand or you fold if someone bets. After the flop more than 70% of the cards you're going to get in your hand have already been dealt and this should give you evidence on whether you should play further or not.

3.) The third rule of a good strategy is that if you play a drawing hand such as a flush or straight draw, you need to hold at least four of the needed cards by the flop or you should probably get out unless you made something with the hand.

4.) The fourth rule of a good basic strategy says that if you are not on a drawing hand, to continue after the flop, in most cases you should hold at least to pair with a big kicker or an overpair to the flop. An over part is a pocket pair that is of higher rank than any card on the flop.  This assumes that the flop did not come up three of one suite, a suit you don't hold that does not fit your hand might easily fit someone else's. This goes for a straight too.

5.) The fifth rule is simple keep your eyes open. Danger lurks everywhere you should get in the habit of looking at the flop and figuring out what the highest possible hand could be out there. Then try to estimate how likely it is for someone to have such a hand. On every card reassess the board.

6.) The sixth rule says when you have the best hand, and you know you have the best hand make your opponents pay.. and preferably dearly. No free cards when you have the power!!

7.) The seventh rule of a good poker strategy is that you should alway fold your hand when its obvious your beaten. Do not go fishing or let pride get in the way. Don't call the river bet to see what the other players have this is big tel and will eventually demolish your chips.

8.) The eighth rule of good basic strategy is that you must take your position into consideration when deciding whether or not to play a particular hand. For example, if you were dealt a pair of 3s in first position, you should fold.  But if you caught that same pair of 3s in last position or in the small blind with no one having raised before you, with four or more players in the pot ahead of you you'd play them and see the flop because of the pot odds.
